FAQs about the Residency:
1. Where is Crockett?
Crockett, California is a rural and friendly town (population 3100)
in a beautiful setting located twenty minutes north of San Francisco
and twenty minutes south of Napa (and the Wine Country).
2. What is the set-up
for living and other services? You will have a private room in a
shared facility. Furnishings and linens are provided but you do your
own laundry. Cooking and kitchen facilities are available to residents
and you should plan to do your own meal preparation. However, if the
residents would prefer, meals can be coordinated with each other. Residents
may accompany staff to town for shopping, etc. Guests are welcome for
day visits, but not for overnight stays. Unfortunately, the facility
is not handicapped accessible.
3. What are the expectations
of the residents? Residents are welcome to use their time here for
reflection, research and experimentation with new ideas. The focus of
the program is on the process of creation rather than the result. Artists
are given the opportunity to participate in field trips to galleries,
museums, and local artist studios. The residency provides artists with
a reception at the end of the residency. Occasionally group tours of
this facility are arranged, but participation by residents is voluntary.
4. What is it that Crockett
Contemporary Art provides and what is the benefit of participation?
Crockett Contemporary Art provides program administration, housing,
studio, a weekly program, exhibition space and a closing reception.
The benefit of the program depends entirely on each resident. The opportunity
to work in a loverly and dedicated environment, uninterrupted for extended
periods of time and to be able to grow one's work and share that with
others is a valuable experience that we hope will enrich each person's
work in the future.
5. What are the costs
associated with the residency? At this time, the program is 100%
dependent on residency fees and does not have financial assistance to
offer. Once accepted into the program, the artist must pay for the residency
in order to secure his or her space. Please note that there will be
no refunds for cancellations unless a replacement can be found; then
a $250 cancellation fee will be charged. Residencies are from the 1st
through the 28th of each month and the cost is $500 a week. There is
no application processing fee.
